Artist statement
Bedoor Alshehhi is a contemporary visual artist working primarily in painting and drawing. Her practice explores themes of identity, memory, and power through figurative and symbolic forms, often examining how narratives are shaped, withheld, or reinterpreted over time.
The work develops through layered processes that privilege duration and revision. Rather than aiming for immediate resolution, each piece allows meaning to surface gradually, holding space for ambiguity and multiple readings. Figures, gestures, and compositions often exist in states of tension—between presence and absence, control and vulnerability.
Rooted in sustained studio practice, Alshehhi’s approach emphasizes material awareness, scale, and intentionality. Works are developed as individual pieces or as part of focused series, with attention given to how form and concept evolve together rather than in isolation.
Based in the UAE, Alshehhi produces original works and limited editions intended for long-term engagement rather than rapid consumption. Her practice prioritizes depth over volume, favoring works that reward close looking and continued reflection.
